The mountaineer stu 11 ere d and stammered and finally said; “You can’t get there from here,” We may smile at this, but the results would be even more amusing—and sad—wet o to ask the average person on the street the way to heaven. What is the way to heaven? It is interesting to read in God’s Word that many think about this. In Proverbs 14:12 w e read; “There is away that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” W'hat arc some of thesi “ways” that “seerr. rigfc”’ to men, leading them b hope for heaven? In the Gospel according to John there are recorded for us seven “lams’', which the Lord Jesus Christ used in speaking of Himself. One of these is found iri John M:G “I AM THE WAY, the truth anc! the life; NO MAN COMETH UNTO THE FATHER BIH' BY ME.” This passage has a double significance, since it was not only the declara tion of the Lord Jesus Christ, but at the same time a decla ration of the divinely inspired Script urns. From this verse we learn not only that Jesus Is the only way to the Father, but also that He is “THE TRUTH” to be beliov-m and trusted in. MEDITATION BY COLIN DOUG FA -J “Tli'p that go down to the s> - dps . . , see the works of Jehovah.” - Psalms 107: 23,24. “Ti ; th set ol ;V sell, and rot in os, th.u lolls them the wa to go.” It is our attitude, the manner in which, we think of our sur rounding, o’ J other people, and oi our opjxjrtunities, that de termines the kind of life we live. On '■■•ho remembers al ways- ihm 1 has divinely given inner resources he has never even begun to tap, strength that he has never fully to test, and gifts that he has never developed to full capacity, can never be discouraged by seem - ing adversity. With unwavering faith in the constant presence ana never failing power of God, he sets his sails according to the cir cumstances and continues his course unafraid. Many times the contrary winds help him, instead of hindering his pro gress because they call forth those hidden talents and abili ties that have previously lain dormant within him and thus, he is a better man for hav ing bucked up against those winds. When all is smooth sailing, we sometimes are prone to slip into an attitude of self-suffi ciency or complacency, assum ing that our successful voy age is the result of our own strength and judgment. Then, when the winds become unfav orable, we become confused and we make mistakes in our navi gation. Too late do we realize that it is not we, “but the Fath er within who doeth the works.” If we always keep our minds and hearts turned to God for guidance and strength we are able to weather any storm and to keep our ships on the true course. “Thy word is a lamp unto my f. i, and a light unto my path.” --Psalms 119:105.
