Sills of Charles E. Jordan Senior High in Durham. Runner-up state winners and their principals are Belvoir Elementary School in Greenville, Patsy S. James; West Craven Middle School in New Bern, W.B. Rivenbark; and-LeeSeniorHighinSanford, George Seagraves. The awards were presented by former State Superinten dent of Public Instruction, Dr. Charles Carroll. Over 200 schools from throughout the state submitted scrapbooks in the competition which is sponsored by the State Department of Public Instruction in cooperation with Keep North Carolina Beautiful Inc. Craven Community College Receives Grant Craven Community College has been awarded a grant in the amount of $20,000 from the Z. Smith Reynolds Founda tion, Inc. for the procurement and production of quality programming for its public radio station WTEB which v/ent on the air Monday, June 4, at 6 a.m. and is located at 89.5 fm on the radio dial. The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation was established in 1936 as a memorial to the youngest son of the founder of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. In that year the brother and two sisters of Z. Smith Reynolds provided that their inheritance from his estate would go to the establishment of a trust for the benefit of the people of North Carolina. One of the initial trustees of the Foundation was Z. Smith Reynolds’ uncle, William Neal Reynolds, wheat his death in 1951 created a trust which now provides the major portion of the Founda tion’s annual income. The Foundation has made 1,692 grants totaling more than $116,000,000 to more ccc Graduates than 850 recipients in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties.
