RECORDER TRIES 9 CASES ^^^^y**^^*********** & * * * * Case Of City Negro Who Assaulted In-Law Continued Three Are Tried On Liquor Charges At Halifax Court At the regular session of Re corder’s Court, Judge C. R. Dan iel and Solicitor Thadus H. Dick ens disposed of nine cases. Liquor cases led with three cases and there was one case each of re ceiving stolen property, assault, driving without license, affray, petit larceny and failure to list. Thurman Hardy, tried for re ceiving stolen property, plead guilty. Prayer for judgment con tinued for 1 year. The case of James Freeman, who assaulted his father-in-law in a drunken quarrel, was continued. The case of Thomas Nayor, who was driving without license, was remanded to Mayor for final dis position. William Crawley plead guilty of liquor charges. Judgment sus pended on payment of costs. C. T. Hazelwood plead guilty of driving while drunk. He was fined $50 and costs, to be paid at rate of $5.00 per week. E. R. Davis plead quilty of driv ing while drunk. He was fined $50 and costs to be paid by 1st Tues day in July, 1933. Not to drive motor vehicle for 4 months. Cisrow Sessoms and Bernard Clark were tried for affray. Ses soms plead not guilty and Clark plead guilty. Prayer for judgment continued on payment of costs. Lonnie Norris plead guilty of petit larceny. He was sentenced to 10 months in jail to be assigned to work roads. R. E. Davis was tried for fail ure to list taxes. Prayer for judg ment continued on payment of costs. New York’s stock exchange was organized in 1792. Ten Local People Employed By New Ford Dealers Here The Roanoke Motor Company, new Ford dealers for Roanoke Rapids and vicinity, will employ ten people to start with, besides the manager, according to announ cement coming from Vernon F. Harrison, the manager, and the new concern is now ready for busi ness in their home on Roanoke Avenue and Ninth Streets, the building formerly occupied by Joyner Motor Co. With a complete stock of parts, several models of the new Ford car on display on the floor and the shop running smoothly, the com pany has been ready for business since the first of the month but will not hold their formal opening for a week or so yet. According to Mr. Harrison, ela borate plans are being worked out for the formal opening, which it is thought will be announced in next week’s issue of the Herald, and in the intervening time, all details of service and interior ar rangement of the garage will be worked out. Mr. Harrison is well known in Roanoke Rapids, having lived in Halifax county for a number of years, and comes here from Lit tleton, where he also has the Ford agency. His Roanoke Rapids agen cy will be operated in addition to his Littleton holdings, it was an nounced, and Harrison will man age both places, but will give much of his time to looking after the Roanoke Rapids agency, particul arly until it is well established. WOMAN’S CLUB MEETS The Womans Club met Monday afternoon at the club house. This was the last meeting of the club year. Reports were given by the heads of the various departments, a summary of these reports will be given later. A paper on “How to be a Good Club Member” was given by Mrs. George Hayes. A bout twenty members answered roll call. Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting. Mrs. Sam Scoffield left Mon day for her home in Camden, N. J., after visiting her parents here, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bray.
