&hjioai commission. The Bill Brought up as Special Or- I ; , ' dor and IiOr. Raleigh. N. C Feb. 9. In the House to-day the railway Commission bill came, up as spec ial order. The vote by which it passed its ' second reading- was (reconsidered and it came up on that reauiuK. itx- - into committee of the whole on the bill and consider it by sec tions was tabled. Speeches in favor of the bill were made by Messrs. Pearson. Worth and Ew art, and in opposition by Messrs. Vnrk and Holt. There was some very plain talk by Mr. Evv- art in regard to tne rauway iod bvists employed and paid by the p.VTimonH and Danville road to fight this bills. I A vote was taken and. showed fa tie. B.- This bill was killed in the House yesterday. These Senators are nat Rich. Senator Vance has a fair law practice and owns his home in North Carolina, but is in no dan ger of dying wealthy. Senator Piatt is well off. though not a millionaire. He is worth about $200,000, and yet he lives in a most economical style. Senator Sabin was a millionaire when he came to Washington, but since his failure in business his capital has been put at zero. . Senator Pugh makes about $15, OOOa year out af his law practice, "and is said to own a little proper- ty in Alabama. He ts a saving man. s Senator Wade Hampton, of Pouth Carolina, owns a little pro perty in Columbia, but he is ob liged to live very economically f Senator Wilson, of Maryland, lived off his salary as circuit judge before he entered the Senate and now he gets but little outside of, his $5,000. ! Senator Ransom, of North Car- ouna, never naa any oank ac count to speak of and lives on his salarv. He is generous and open- handed to a fault. - 'r 1 ' Senator Riddleberger has his salary, a little property and some :newspaper interests, and he saves nothing.
