A large boiler passed through here yesterday on its way to Fayetteville for the cotton seed oil mills in that place. It contained one hundred and forty-six flues, and the fire box was nine feet long by five feet wide. Wednesday night a colored man named Scofield Merritt, was arrested and committed to jail on the charge of beating a colored woman, near the depot. The stockholders of the North Car lina Railroad and some of the most in fluential men of the Piedmont section of this State met yesterday at the Benbow House, to discuss the question of con structing the N. . C, Midland Railroad from Danville, Va., to Mooresville, N C. No definite action was, taken. Col. Andrews and President Gray were pres ent.' Prince Ferdinand, of Bavaria, who is a distingaished surgeon,has,during his recent visit to Madrid, performed several delicate' operations. The Prince is a brother of the Empress of Austria-Hungary.
