John Cage would probably perform an original composition incorporating brushes, paint cans and assorted artist paraphernalia as instruments. But from Maxine Swalin, a pianist and harpsichordist who has worked closely with the North Carolina Symphony, we can expect something a little more traditional, and probably a lot more enjoyable. The program will feature music and paintings which have been chosen for correlations in style. Slides will include artists from Renoir to Picasso and Swalin's . piano selections include works by Shumann,1 Debussy, Bach and Joplin. Since 1946 Swalin has worked with the North Carolina Symphony as coordinator for Young Artist's Auditions and Children's Concerts. She is currently interested in the achievements of women in the Fine Arts and shares musical programs with her husband, a conductor and violinist. Maxine Swalin's Painted Music will be presented at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Great Hall. 'Fraternity Row' writer to speak Gary Allison, the producer writer oi Fraternity Row, will hold a discussion on the film at 7:30 tonight in I A Swain Hall. Allison produced the film while doing research for his doctoral dissertation at the University of Southern California. It is based on the exploits of a fraternity pledge class in the 1950s.
