By JIM FEREBEE DELTA TAU INITIATION- Newly initiated members of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society Inter- national are Elizabeth Crowder, third grade teacher at Washington Elementary, and Nicole Dobbins, assistant principal at Kings Mountain Middle School. The membership committee and officers: front row, left to right, Lindsay Walker, vice president; new members Elizabeth Crowder and Nicole Dobbins; Valerie Boyd, secretary; back row, Marlene Bennett, member- ship chairman, Connie Phifer Savell membership committee and Heather Self, president. On Saturday morn- ing, June 20 at 4 a.m. nine scouts and three leaders left Kings Mountain enroute to Atchafalaya Swamp Base in Louisiana. The Scouts and leaders are from Boy Scout Troop 92 sponsored by First Baptist Church Kings Mountain. The leaders were Scoutmaster David Es- tridge, Assistant Scoutmas- ter Rusty Wright and Troop Committee Member Russell Kiser. Scouts Payton Clark, Hunter Cooke, Andrew Es- tridge, Kaleb Estridge, Don- ovan Kiser, Chase Stirewalt, Anthony Vagnozzi and Levi Wright made up the rest of the crew. Around 3:30 CDT the group arrived at Parkview Baptist Church in Metairie, LA. After a tour of New Orleans the scouts stayed overnight at Parkview Bap- tist Church. After attending Sunday School at Parkview the group left for Lafayette, LA and Vermillion Ville Historic Park. There they toured housing and living history of the late 1700's Ar- cadian culture. Eta State is part of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a professional honor society that promotes personal and professional growth of women educators. Savell, of Kings Mountain, served last year as second vice-president. The 2015 Eta State Founders award was presented to Dr. June St. Clair Atkinson, Alpha Omicron Chapter member.
